Dear Cuties,

We just celebrated Faith’s 7th birthday, and I hooe you remember it being as beautiful as weekend as I do. Faith turned 7 on a saturday this year, so that day Evelyn and Faith accompanied me to H-E-B where Faith picked out an oreo cake for her party and we also selected steaks, veggies, fruits and cheeses for our birthday dinner that evening. Little by little I had done my birthday party shopping on my good days the week before, so we enjoyed a relaxing day at home before our small dinner celebration at home that night.

On Sunday we attended church as usual, and went home for a bit to grab everything we needed for the party that afternoon. We rented out a party room at the local rollercade at Faith’s request- we had taken you guys roller skating there a few weeks before and she fell in love with it! We had invited a handful of school friends and the usual family and were delighted that they could all make it. Grandma Blanca and Papa Abel had taken Faith birthday shopping earlier that weekend, so she was decked out in her cute 70’s overalls. The fun started almost immediately; you watched a few minutes of private lessons before getting on the skate floor, and the friends started to trickle in. Grandma Blanca came with balloons and more decorations, and they added the perfect touch to the little party room. We ordered pizza and pink lemonade, and Papa Mark, Mamaw Lizzy, and the rest of the Vasquez family showed up with bottled waters. Everyone enjoyed watching you all make your laps around the rink, smiling when we’d see Faith or Eben flailing wildly while trying to keep their balance; you guys weren’t the most graceful skaters out there but you did stay up!! Ylde was sad not to have his friend show up, but after some coaxing (and both me and grandma renting out skates!) we got him back out on the skating floor. Ylde is a sight to behold out on the rink; he skates smoothly and gracefully with his arms held behind his back, looking like an old man who has been doing this for a lifetime. He left me and grandma in the dust, and we had fun roller skating together for the first time again in over 20 years. I am proud to say we both stayed on our feet!

I can’t tell you how fun it was to look around and see you each all doing your own thing; Evelyn racing by in a tangle of giggles with her friends Olivia and Maggie, Faith laughing and flailing around with her friends in tow, Eben racing off with pure determintation, not letting any of his falls deter him from getting up and trying again, and Ylde just gliding along, weaving in and out of the crowd.

It was so nice to come together in celebration of our little chicita bonita. Faith, you are full of sweetness, determination, kindness, passion and love. You are such a good friend and student, you rise to challenges and fight for what you care about. Your heart is big, you challenge us to be better people, and you make me a better mom. I am so thankful for you. We love you so much!

Sincerely,

Mom
