Hi Kids,
Well… this is the first time I’m going to put pen to paper, so to speak (I’m actually typing), in a long, LONG time. There have been many occasions where I wanted to sit down and write, but the clock kept rolling and time slipped away. Life got busy, and the writing was forgotten.
I hope to break that cycle and sit down at least once a week to share my inner thoughts, observations, wins, concerns, life lessons, and letters of admiration. You get the point. Basically anything and everything.
The goal is for you to get to know me better as a person, not just as your dad.
As a parent, you may know me as stern… the one who “lays down the law”… maybe even mean at times. I’m also hoping you’ve seen some of the better parts of me too. The loving, caring, and playful side. I like to believe I’m a little bit of everything. But you experience life through your own eyes, and you get to come to your own conclusions.
That’s part of the purpose of these writings.
Maybe they’ll reinforce what you already believe about me, or maybe they’ll reshape who you thought I was. I’m hoping to give you more context, the thoughts behind my actions and the beliefs that guide me.
There will be times when what I do or say doesn’t make sense to you in the moment, and that’s okay. It’s possible I won’t know how to explain it… or maybe I won’t be ready to. Hopefully, these writings will help fill in those gaps over time.
They’ll also give you a chance to know me as a younger parent. And one day, when you’re older and reading these, you’ll be able to compare who I was then to who I am now. I think that will be fun.
It also means some of what I write might contradict itself at times, and that’s okay too. Just like you, I’m growing, learning, and becoming a new person every day. What I believe to be true one day can, and probably will, change.
I know this might surprise you, but despite popular belief, I don’t know everything. I make mistakes. And I do my best to own them and apologize when I need to.
After all, I’m human.
This is just an introduction. I wanted you to know what to expect in the grand scheme of things. Short, simple, and to the point.
Next time, I think I’ll take a little more time to introduce myself as Bryant.
